Finished portrait of Marion Cotillard- for those of you who don't know her, she's an amazing French actress. She was in Public Enemies and Nine recently.
This is my first ever drawing of anything done with charcoal, and I was pretty excited about. However, it's so different than graphite that I hated it in the beginning, but I figured it out and now I'm in love with it. The portrait went pretty easy after that.
I found that I didn't really want to study the reference as much for this portrait, so the shadows are a bit different, as well as the shirt. In the reference the shirt is white with gray sequins, and I wanted to work more with the white charcoal, so I just reversed it.
Took about 6 hours.

I don't know who the actress is, but this is an amazing piece none the less, I love the texure of her lips, and the expression is brilliant.. Well done
